Wedding Registry is a service provided by gift stores or websites which makes the daunting task of making a gift wish list a bit easier. The wedding registry is also called as a bridal registry. The basic objective behind a wedding registry is to save the time of both, the engaged couple and the guests that are coming to witness their wedding.

After the wedding, the engaged couple need a whole stack of goods and items for their daily life. The engaged couple select a store that sells gift items for all purposes. Before the wedding, the couples select items that they might find useful in their lives after they are bonded to each other by a wedding ceremony from the stock available at the store. They make a list of all such gift items accordingly. What this does is, it saves the couple’s time to go and shop individually for all these necessary things that they require. Then, this list which we call the wedding registry is filed with the store owner of the store which has been selected. The store owner keeps the wedding registry in his store’s records. Also, this list is circulated by the family of the engaged couple or the store owner himself to all the guests who are invited for the wedding while giving invitation cards to them. This registry gives some indication to the guests about the items that would be a good wedding gift to the couple and would be useful for them in their future life. So, the guests approach the store where the registry is filed and purchase gift items according to the list. This system even saves the time of the guests to go out looking for a perfect gift to give the couple. Whenever, a guest comes in the store, selects a gift from the list and purchases it, the store owner updates the wedding registry accordingly. This updating of the wedding registry prevents the duplication of gifts given to the wedded couple. Another advantage that the wedding registry has is that it also prevents the engaged couple from receiving unwanted gifts that they might not find useful.

The system of Wedding Registry was initiated long ago in the year 1924. As the world progressed in the technological field, the wedding registry started including electronic equipments as well. Nowadays, there are websites where a couple can create their wedding registry and share it with the guests on the internet. This facility helps the guests who might be arriving for the wedding from a distant location, to buy gifts online.
